Vice President Kamala Harris is facing backlash for attending a fundraising event in an affluent Atlanta suburb while the border crisis worsens. Her visit came just hours after the expiration of Title 42, a policy that previously helped control the influx of migrants at the border.
During her speech at the Democratic Party of Georgia’s spring soirée in Buckhead, Harris chose not to address the pressing issue of immigration and instead focused on other topics like abortion, infrastructure, and democracy protection.
The Republican Party of Georgia condemned Harris’ visit, calling it “deplorable” that she was campaigning for funds while the border crisis remains unresolved and inflation continues to rise. They criticized her for prioritizing fundraising over addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation.
When questioned about the criticism, Harris deflected blame by emphasizing that immigration is Congress’ responsibility, echoing the stance of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
