You’ll Never Guess Who Had To Defend The President’s Actions

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre found herself in the unenviable position of defending President Biden’s lack of urgency and absence in the high-stakes debt ceiling negotiations on Capitol Hill.

During a press conference in Hiroshima, Japan, Fox News Channel’s White House correspondent Peter Doocy challenged Jean-Pierre on the President’s activities during the debt ceiling meetings in Washington, D.C.

Doocy asked pointedly, “What was [Biden] doing for the last several hours while they were in these meetings?”

Jean-Pierre responded with a weak explanation, mentioning ongoing conversations and negotiations on the Hill. She argued that it was impossible for the President to be updated while discussions were still in progress. However, Doocy rightly questioned why Biden couldn’t have called in, considering his current participation in the 2023 G-7 Summit in Japan.

Rather than providing a satisfactory answer, Jean-Pierre dodged the question, emphasizing that the negotiators needed space and assuring that the President would receive regular updates from his advisors.

Another question loomed: why doesn’t President Biden trust Vice President Harris to lead the debt ceiling negotiations, as President Obama trusted then-Vice President Biden in 2011? Doocy pressed for an explanation.

Jean-Pierre dismissed the question, stating that she disagreed with its premise. She pointed out Harris’s recent presence in a meeting with congressional members and emphasized the President’s regular consultations with her, claiming he listens to her advice.

The Treasury Department has set a tentative deadline of around June 1, signaling when the government may face difficulties meeting its spending obligations without further borrowing.

Biden and his congressional allies advocate for an immediate debt ceiling increase, while Republicans insist on accompanying it with spending reductions.

The lack of urgency and transparency from the Biden administration is alarming. Americans deserve answers and decisive action on this critical issue. The debt ceiling is not a political game; it directly impacts our nation’s fiscal responsibility and economic future.

Republicans must remain steadfast in holding the administration accountable and fighting for responsible fiscal policies that safeguard the interests of hardworking Americans. The stakes are too high to accept anything less.

Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the debt ceiling talks and provide you with the latest updates. America deserves strong leadership and prudent financial decision-making.
