Jussie Smollett, an actor from the show “Empire,” has been arrested. He is facing felony charges for filing a false police report that claimed he was attacked by racist and homophobic Trump supporters.
The official charge is felony disorderly conduct which carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
Attorneys for the actor released a statement right before his arrest. “Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked,” the statement read. “Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense.”
The filing comes after the two primary suspects for the attack were revealed. Instead of being homophobic, white supremacists they were in fact black brothers one who had worked with Smollett on “Empire” and the other serving as the actor’s personal trainer. They admitted Smollett paid them to stage the attack and were caught on camera buying ski masks, red MAGA-like hats and rope for a noose.
A sad and disgraceful turn of events which honestly, has been becoming more likely with each investigative day.
