The U.S. government made a promise to Afghan allies to resettle them safely in the United States after the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But the Biden administration has failed to keep that promise, leaving tens of thousands of allies behind.
According to a report from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), bureaucratic dysfunction and understaffing are undermining efforts to rescue and resettle these individuals. Republicans are holding the administration accountable for this humanitarian crisis, and Congress must provide meaningful oversight to prevent it from worsening.
It’s time for the Biden administration to take responsibility for its failure and act immediately to rescue and resettle Afghan allies left behind.
