During his statement, President Biden also acknowledged the one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, where an AR-15 was used in a tragic incident during a 4th of July parade. He commended Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker for signing a bill banning assault weapons as a response to this act of violence.
